Have you ever read any Artemis Fowl books? I guess they're kinda a mix of the two, they might be a bit young though, I dunno, but they're quite funny as well.

OMG!!!!!!!!! i hecka forgot about that book!!!! i read the first one i like second seventh, lolz i had a nock moment, lolz sorry grade i think but someone stole the second one from the class library so i never got to read it!!! wow yeah ima look those up again, god its been years............

How about
alien secrets
by Annette Curtis.Klause,
one who wrote silver kiss and Blood And chocolate?
Talks about a boy widing this spaceship to somewhere, and then this alien becomes his friend, so he kind of is a father figure.
It's sci fi.
Here is the summary I found
Aboard a space freighter en route to the planet
where her scientist parents are based, Robin (Puck)
Goodfellow, almost thirteen and recently expelled from her
proper English boarding school, befriends an alien called
Hush (for short). Hush has had a cherished artifact stolen
from him, and he believes it is on the ship. Puck vows to
help him retrieve it, and is soon enmeshed in a mystery with
an abundance of suspects.
Anne McFrey is a good author too.
The cronicles of nrnia is fantasy and it's pretty good.
Eragon, and it's sequel, is fantasy and it's excellent!
How about ray bradbury, he writes sci fi, and they are good.
How about Pen Dragon, they are fantasy, and they are good!

Oh, it does, but it was funny, because me and this friend of mine have different book interests. I only read a couple of books we like together, but I swore I wouldn't read alien secrets for some strange, reason (I think to make her mad, I was mad at her) but anyways, I did read it in the end, and liked it very much. I didn't liked her other books though. My friend suggested it as well. Blood and Choclate was too much for me, well, too gross in my opinion and to much romantic feelings. Um, the silver kiss, was just to much mushy mushy, my friend is a um romance freak, so yeah! The romantic sceens was too graphic, like describing the french kiss thoroughly, and the stuff, where you kiss on your chest, that was also to vivid or at least for me! But yeah, over all they are good I guess.
