I'll be babysitting a toddler who just turned 1. I've never babysat anyone this young so I'm hoping that you guys might have advice.

Well, of course don't spoiln the kid, but be gentle and under as you can. Try not to be too loud or abnoxious. A soft and quiet environment is needed.
Jenna, when, do you need some help? I am pretty sure I can help out or try!

I'd say try and stay calm but be firm if you need to be.

Haven't officially babysat her yet, but I've been playing with her for long periods of time and getting quite used to her. She's adorable (I may try to get a picture of her up). What's really helpful is that she knows sign language. The most useful sign is no and she does know what it means (also this is really help me to learn. Learned lots in just one day!).

Okay, that's good, make sure you and her are on a good relationship, that can help too.

you put on the magical picture and sound device, a.k.a. the t.v. lolz but really its all about entertaining the kid. i baby sit my lil bros all the time an its all about how you tak to them. have a happy sounding voice, an they will repond happy. have a mean sounding voice, an they will respond by crying.

Yeah, and oh, don't scare them either, that won't make them any better to you!
Oh, not for fun either, not if you don't want trouble.

That's true. Emily loves peekaboo. Especially if several people are doing it at the same time. She's so adorable.

Today, Jennifer (my cousin, I'll try to get a picture of her up soon too) and I babysat her for a bit outside. I noticed when she first came out she had a spot on her ear. I was like "okay"... So we put her in the stroller as Jennifer's wanting and took a picture for a scrapbook we're planning. Emily wanted to get out so I convinced Jennifer that we should entertain her other ways.
We helped down the slide on the play structure. I think that was her favorite thing the whole day. While picking her up, you can see her stomach and I noticed there were red spots there. Curious...
After that, we went into a clubhouse we have outside and entertained her by having her squirt a squirt water bottle at us and her hand (I didn't think it would be a good idea squirting her in the face). After that, Emily's mother brought some toys for her and we played with them. We did the sign language for "play" and she clapped her hands saying "yay" repeatedly. So adorable! We started singing songs and helping her dance (we sung "YMCA" and "I Like to Move It") I noticed she had a whole red spot under her chin. "Was that there before?" The red spot on her ear vanished.
Her mother came back out and she spun her. While she did that, I noticed the red spots on her stomach got darker. I started to panic a bit. I kept it quiet. After all, the ear spot did disappear.
Jennifer had to go home, so Emily and I started walking around. She gave all the sticks she found to me and the leaves to my dog Sherlock to crunch. She tried eating a piece of leaf. I told her "no" and she started crying so naturally her mother came out. I noticed while she comforted her that Emily had a new red spot over her eye. "What the heck?" I mentioned it to her mother.
After telling my own mom, she check in the medical book and concluded it was Hives. That poor baby. It got even worse and they had to get Benedryl. Hopefully, she'll be better tomorrow.

I did something extraordinary yesterday. Acted as I was maybe ten, or something. Not remotely mature, or like a freshman ready for high school.
So, I was playing on this little kiddies water slide with these two kids, and I was having so much fun. The kids were adorable. Even the ten years old. We were screaming and yelling. I was shouting encouragements for them to play on, and was like, "Yay, James/lynmarie, Go, good, one, now dump water on me, (squeals) very good, why don't you do that again, now go slide! Yeah! Yayya! Yeaaaaaaa! Yeeeeaaaaaa!"
We were so loud people that were two blocks away could probably hear us!
We did that for a good hour. Sometimes I had to say, "James, where are you going." or "Lynmarie dear, why don't you join us to play!" But that was it.
Then we decided to play dunk someone in water. They want me to splash water on them so I did. Then the boy got up took the cup on me and splashed water on me. one cupful was from the gutter! (ewwww) So I said, "James, no, dunk me with that clean water. Yeah, this way, do it like, yeah." I was trying to wash off the gutter water, so I told him to do it exactly how he dumped the gutter water, so I could wash off, and so he did.
The children didn't want me to leave. We had so much fun. It was hilarious. I went home tired and glad of it. That was fun, I wish I could redo it. Oh, the mother was gone half the time.
the saddest part was The kids told me I didn't have to watch them, because there mother left or deserted them all the time. She just left them in the house allone or outside, although they were young and for a long time sometimes half an hour. I just felt sympathetic towards the kids, and they were so adorable.
