In case anyone was wondering if they should watch Cinderella 3, here's a review for y'all.
Let me get this straight. I LOVE Disney. I HATE MOST their sequels. Their sequels would just waste money with low quality animation, some in lazy 3-D. Absolutely no effort or time put into the final product. Not all of them are like this. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest was great and so are all the Lion King sequels. There are a few others that are good or tolerable, but if you're wondering why I hate most of the sequels, I'll give some examples. Here's two that come to mind right away, "Hunchback of Notre Dame 2" and "Pocahontas 2". I love Hunchback, but the 2 was horrible, not even animated by the original studios. Same with Pocashontas 2. Both with a lame plot and even lamer animation. But they worst of worst was Cinderella 2 Dreams Come true.
So you can imagine my shudder of thinking I was going to watch Cinderella 3. I had heard it was better and that John Lasseter was trying to raise the quality of sequels, but I thought it was still going to be terrible. My little cousin seemed so interested so I said I would watch with her and I was quite surprised.
Animation: Course, not as high quality as original movies, but MUCH better than the second. It looks like they actually did research! The costumes and the movement of clothes and people look so real, that if you're used to bad sequels like me, you'd swear it was almost a original production. They look exactly like they did in the original, even Cinderella's clothes looked like the original (they didn't at all in the second one). At least they know what they're doing. Some of the emotions and movements of hands look a bit off sometimes.
Personalities of Characters: Don't watch the original before the movie because it may distract you. We decided to have a "Cinderella Marathon" watching all of them in order (we never finished the second). Ella herself didn't change much, but she was more bold during this. I heard some criticism about this, but I personally like it. During the original, she seems so weak and much too depend on magic, now she shines. The Step Sisters themselves haven't changed much than Anastasia. They pretty much ignored the second movie besides Anastasia's personality. I like this one a lot better, a real person. Drizella was much too flat though. The Prince seems offbalance with his personality. Granted, he has his funny moments and we don't see much of his personality during the original, but it didn't seem right at all. The King has changed his heart a little. In the original, he didn't care who his son married as long as he was, but I feel his concern about who his son is going to marry much better. Also, there's only two bluebirds and mice in this story (what the heck happened to her friends?).
Humor: What's a Disney movie even without a lame pun? Luckily, there are many jokes. Some are good and some fail. If you like a good laugh, you'll tolerate some of the humor which is targeted at kids. Just keep a open mind.
Voice Acting: Cinderella was decent, but sometimes she broke the character and sounded nothing like her (once again, don't watch the original right before watching this). Lady Tremaine sounded TOO much like Maleficent. Anastasia's voice isn't as rough as before, but it's for the good of the movie and helps it then distract you. The Prince didn't sound enough like the original either. What surprises me, one girl plays the Fairy Godmother and Drizella, and one man played Jac and the Grand Duke. Isn't that amazing? They all sound completely different!
Songs: Finally! Original songs in a sequel sung by the characters. They are extremely short, but are beautiful and enchanting. You'll love them, especially if you love "dream" sort of songs. The only song I don't like is Anastasia's songs (Thankfully, it's the shortest).
Story: *SPOILER ALERT* The story is based on Disney Cruise Line's Twice Charmed. In this story, it's been a year since he ball and the marriage of the prince and Cinderella. The Fairy Godmother is planning a romantic dinner to recreate the night they met. Anastasia follows them wishing for her own prince. When Godmother flings her wand inro the bushes by accident, Anastasia picks it up and takes it to her mother. Her mother, for revenge, turns back time to where Cinderella is locked in her room. Cinderella must try to make her Happy Ending happen using her own spirit without the help of any magic. And it doesn't help much when the Prince thinks his true love is Anastasia.
It's cute, charming, and much better than it sounds. Not to mention, kids love it. Don't be afraid to buy a copy to help you with babysitting. Hope you all liked the review and that it helped!
